What was the highlight of Chiang Mai Orchid Hotel

High Quality Cozy Hotel.

Entrance hall - Felt fancy. Piano and a few fish made a nice atmosphere. Location - It was near the main centre of Chiang Mai. You do need a taxi to get to the south night markets but they are cheap. Gym and Swimming pool - Very large and there is a staff member to help you with the weights...I mean to give you a towel. Room - large with good insulation. Not hot or too cold.

Breakfast - No chef to make fresh food. Mostly fruit. Bread and cereal was an option. I seemed to have only cereal as the other food didn't appeal to me and I can eat a lot of different food! Breakfast room - Large but with all doors open meaning many Mosquitos. I want to eat my chocolate cereal without having to go full Jackie Chan to kill mosquitos. Bedroom - There is a door within your room to go to the next guests room (yes it's locked). This meant you could hear the other guests very easily. I am with my wife. With little sound protection...on our honeymoon. Pool - Damaged chairs meant you could not lay on them.

Love it and will be back!

Location is awesome. Near to the old city but away from the hustle and bustle. It is a older hotel so don't expect W or Movenpick BUT for the price, it is awesome. Usable swimming pool and good dim sum buffet dinner. Hot water, clean sheets and aircon in a huge room (old style hotel)... nothing much to ask for more for under THB1,000 per night.

I did not like the grumpy old farang in the lobby pushing all the local staff around.

OLD Classic hotel

A classic Thai hotel. Clean linens are room. Few amenities. Ample breakfast included. The shower heats quickly and very good water pressure.

There is a photo showing a large modern hotel with a large pool. Why? The hotel was impressive 20 years ago, but shows it its age.

Great location and value for money

See previous review. Good location, spacious room and very good value for money. Most amenities are walking distance or a short ride by tuk tuk or baht bus.

We wanted a single large bed but got 2 separate beds. We didn't complain and just put up with it given this stay was only 8 days. As stated in last review, rooms are looking old and tired and the whole hotel appears in need of a renovation to modernize it a little.

Great value, great location.

Location was pretty good with many restaurants, cafes and other shops a short walk away. Maya Shopping Plaza was a 10 minutes 1km walk which was fairly easy. Baht buses and tuk tuks readily available and we were able to get most places around town for 30 baht each which is like $1.50 AUD each. Front desk staff were great although finding someone to understand English at times very challenging. Room size was great and bed was super comfy.

Our room was on level 2 and had zero view. It was dark and cave like, but hey we were only there to sleep and in the evening so not a major issue. A room on a higher floor would have been nice though. The room, although spacious appeared tired and in need of renovation. That said it was neat and tidy, and serviced daily.

Great stay (again), great location and buffet. I'll be back ;-D

Perfect location for me, I've stayed there before. Good big rooms, great buffet brekkie thrown in. Friendly and helpful staff, particularly at the buffet. Ideal location near to my friends and a large shopping mall with groceries, food hall, chemists, ATMs etc etc. Hotel is close to other good eating houses and only a short Tuk Tuk ride to the downtown and airport. Staff who serviced the rooms were very friendly and helpful and did a good job. Pool and gym were also much appreciated and I used them a lot.

Rooms are poorly lit and no reading lamps above the beds. Other lighting is dim too and it would be nice to have the option to light the room more adequately. Bathroom was functional and clean but is sorely in need of a renovation, particularly the ceiling. Most staff could not speak English (a few had a few words). Not a big deal as I got by with gestures and let's face it, I'm a visitor to their country ;-D

Convenient place to stay midway between attractions

I had some appointments at the Chiangmai Ram Hospital and this was a very convenient place to stay. It was very convenient also to get transport to Chiangmai University, the zoo and Doi Suthep or crossing the road getting transport in the opposite direction back into the old city. There is a big swimming pool and well equipped gym.

This is the grand old dame of Chiangmai hotels. There is a wall full of pictures of famous people who stayed here a long time ago. It has been a refurbished since but it still feels dated. The breakfast is the usual for Thai hotels ie nothing special.

Great value for money. Good location. Ideal for short stays.

Overall I was impressed with the property. The bed was the best I've slept in during my time in Thailand. The wifi was incredibly fast and the staff are very friendly. Amazing value for money.

Alright for one night, but would suggest other places

Bed is super comfortable, smell of hotel when entering is great

Staff at front office was relatively rude. Cockroaches in my bathroom and even bedroom, small and medium sized. Didn't find Wi-Fi information. Only two water bottles free per day (it's Thailand and a four star, expected more)

Not impressed by the write up for the hotel. Would think twice about staying here again.

The Bell Porters and restaurant staff very helpful. Hotels entrance area very nice

1. Breakfast food was cold. 2. Had a kettle in the room but no coffee or tea 3. Room was very tired, needs refurbishing 4. Mould on the bathroom ceiling 4. Could not exchange English currency as the reception did not recognise this currency even though there was an exchange rate !! (visa card also did not work in this hotel - worked fine everywhere else)

Nice location, close to shopping centre and not to far in a taxi to the bar area.

Very out dated. Lobby had a weird smell to it like it hadn’t been cleaned properly in years. 2 nights in a row we came back to cockroach’s on the dressing table. On the second night we thought this wasn’t on. So went to reception and showed a photo. Instant reaction was to laugh. And due to the language barrier there wasn’t a lot done.

Nice people but old dirty roachy facilities.

Variety of breakfast buffet food and drinks. The evening bar lady manager was awesome!

Breakfast Buffet was very tasty but omelets in outside patio should be kept warm. Also, the ground pork in the noodle soup was not cooked and was bloody pink when there were clumps of pork put in the broth. Chef used same disposable gloves to put raw pork in broth as well as grabbing noodles to add to bowl for the broth on the outside patio area. We are from USA and the cooking and cleanliness standards are much higher. It’s really important those working with food watch these things. The bedroom blankets need to be washed every time. They smelled as if not washed in ten years or more. One should use wet cloth to wipe down floor trim and crevices. It’s those things that make people want to return.

The decoration in the lobby was nice and staff was friendly.

The room is very old and not clean, there are many hand mark on the ceiling. The whole smell horrible. Breakfast very simple. One morning there wasn't that much to eat.

Near Airport/7-11/Central Shopping Mall but No Iron In the room!

I loved the location was near the airport less than 15 minutes by Car no Traffic, if traffic about 25 minutes in the rush hours. 7-11 is just across the street and Central Mall beside the hotel. Great value for money. 800net THB for the Extra Bed (With Amenities and extra towel/robe)

They had no IRON / Iron Board in the room! I had to buy my own in the shopping mall nearby. They have Laundry/Pressing Service but every hotel now a days provide an Iron in the room. The shower head can only be adjusted left to right. They do not have long/modern shower handles.
